Renewable Rejection Database

Management theorist W. Edwards Deming famously said, “In God we trust. All others must bring data.” I created this database to provide reliable data on the rejections or restrictions of battery, solar, and wind projects that have occurred around the world over the past two decades. If you are aware of a rejection or restriction that's not in the database, please click the Contribute button and complete the form. Please include a working URL to the relevant article or government entity so I can verify the information. If it checks out, I will add it to the database. Thanks.

The residents spoke loud and clear. The only question left was if the Town Board would make a decision that favored the vast majority of those who spoke. Finally, after several months, the Town Board made its decision, and it was a decision that many local residents are surely happy to hear. The Town Board unanimously voted to reject the proposed battery energy storage system from Northland Power, along with any similar projects of its kind located anywhere within the limits of the town of Hanover. The Town Board enacted a six-month moratorium on any projects related to renewable energy systems within the town of Hanover to allow for Planning Board review. The Town Board postponed the battery energy storage system vote to make sure the entire board was in attendance and had researched the matter fully before making a decision. Hanover Supervisor Lou Pelletter then brought the matter forward on the agenda at the latest meeting. “We have done our due diligence. The public has spoken. Northland has expressed what their project would be. So at this time, we would need a motion to approve it or deny it,” Pelletter said. Town Board member Aimee Rogers then made the motion to deny the project. Ed Schintzius seconded the motion, then the roll call vote was held. All five members of the Town Board voted against the project, along with any others of its kind as the Town seeks to draft a local law on the matter in the coming months. The proposed project in question was a 250-megawatt lithium battery storage system, with an interconnection that would have been located on Stebbins Road. It was set to be located just over one mile away from Silver Creek Central School.

There were cheers, hugs and the handing out of lettuce after Chichester District Council refused plans for a solar farm in Runcton. The application to place rows of panels on two parcels of land next to Lime Kiln Barn, in Runcton Lane, was rejected by nine votes to three during a meeting of the planning committee on Wednesday (May 7), having been deferred for more information in April. While officers recommended the plans be approved, most councillors agreed with Roy Briscoe (Con, Westbourne), who called for them to be turned down. The grounds for doing so were: the loss of around 90 acres of best quality agricultural land, the impact on the landscape and rural character of the area, and the lack of an S106 legal agreement with applicant BNRG Langmead Ltd.

Whitman County Commissioners approved an ordinance on Monday to strengthen their moratorium on new commercial wind farms. This potentially extends the timeline for a proposed controversial wind farm between Colfax and Palouse further than expected. In January, commissioners approved a six-month moratorium on new wind turbines to allow the Whitman County planning commission time to update the rules governing wind farms. This came after a petition and requests from some members of the public to amend the county's code as it related to commercial wind energy facilities. Wind turbine developer, Steelhead Americas, aims to build 45 turbines near Kamiak Butte, as part of their Harvest Hills wind project. The county commissioners unanimously approved the interim zoning control ordinance on Monday. This move codifies the moratorium into the zoning code and prohibits new wind farms while the temporary ban is in effect.

The St. Clair County Health Department has adopted local health regulations that seek to mitigate adverse health risks and dangers to the public health caused by industrial solar energy and battery energy storage facilities located or proposed to be located in rural areas of St. Clair County, Michigan. These provide for regulation of noise and visual impact from these facilities, and require financial guarantees for decommissioning in the amount of $100k/MW of nameplate capacity.

Plans for a solar farm reportedly large enough to generate power for about one third of homes in Mole Valley, Surrey, have been rejected. Councillors at Mole Valley District Council voted seven to five, with one abstention, to refuse the 49.5 megawatts plant in Cobham Road, Fetcham. Those against argued it was an inappropriate use of green belt land and too close to ancient woodland, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service. The decision went against the advice of planning officers, who said the refusal would likely be overturned on appeal, incurring thousands of pounds in costs for taxpayers.

The proposed 90-megawatt Antlers Road Solar project ran into a firm “no” from the Mecklenburg County Planning Commission on Thursday as planners rejected the developer’s slimmed-down plans for a second time.,,,Earlier this month, the Board of Supervisors tightened the county’s solar ordinance to ban all new utility-scale generation facilities in Mecklenburg County. At the same time, however, supervisors allowed three large projects already in the permitting pipeline — Antlers Road Solar and two others — to continue through the process that could lead to the issuance of a special exception permit. One of the projects, Longroad Energy’s 7 Bridges solar facility in the Chase City area, recently gained the planning commission’s backing for a special exception permit by a 7-5 vote.

A large electricity battery farm on the outskirts of a Derbyshire village has been rejected due to the potential loss of high quality agricultural land. The plans, from Innova Renewable Developments, were for a 12-acre battery farm comprising 242 three-metre-high containers off Twyford Road just to the south of Stenson. At a South Derbyshire District Council meeting on Tuesday night, April 22 councillors rejected the scheme by a vote of nine in favour, none against and two abstensions – against the advice of their own officers. An assessment of the land found one third to be of good agricultural quality and two thirds of moderate quality.

Elbert County's Planning Commission has voted against a proposed solar project, citing concerns over its compatibility with the surrounding rural community. During the meeting on April 22, 2025, commissioners expressed their disapproval of the Sundance Solar Special Use application, emphasizing that the project failed to meet several key criteria, particularly regarding landscaping and screening measures...Ultimately, the commission voted 7-2 against the project, recommending denial to the Board of County Commissioners. The discussions revealed a strong desire among commissioners to ensure that future developments align with the county's rural character and community standards.

4/20/2025BASupreme Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Posusjewind

The Supreme Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) annulled the urban planning permit for the construction of the “Poklecani” wind power plant in Posusje, according to a statement from the environmental organization “Aarhus Center.” The court determined that in issuing the urban planning permit, the FBiH Ministry of Spatial Planning committed procedural and legal errors, and the decision was annulled and returned for reconsideration. The planned wind farm is located near the Blidinje Nature Park in western Herzegovina, and during the planning phase, it provoked opposition from environmental organizations, since the authorities, using a decree the government itself adopted, approved the construction without a prior environmental impact study.

Both houses of the Arkansas state legislature have signed off on legislation to regulate wind farms in Arkansas. That action came on the last day of the legislative session, which adjourned yesterday. The legislation requires the base of wind turbines to be one mile from schools, hospitals, nursing homes, churches, parks, airports and city limits. It also sets a minimum distance for the base of wind turbines at 2,500 feet from a neighbor’s property, or 3.5 times the height of the turbine when the blade is pointing straight up, whichever is greater.
