Management theorist W. Edwards Deming famously said, “In God we trust. All others must bring data.” I created this database to provide reliable data on the rejections or restrictions of battery, solar, and wind projects that have occurred around the world over the past two decades. If you are aware of a rejection or restriction that's not in the database, please click the Contribute button and complete the form. Please include a working URL to the relevant article or government entity so I can verify the information. If it checks out, I will add it to the database. Thanks.

4/7/2025 | GB | Buckinghamshire Council planning committee | Aylesbury Vale | solar | Kimblewick Solar Limited planned to install hundreds of solar panels on 39 hectares of fields south of Bishopstone off Kimblewick Road, Dinton. But its application was thrown out by members of Buckinghamshire Council’s planning committee, who voted against it 7-3 in defiance of planning officers’ recommendation. Councillors opposing the development claimed the visibility, layout and siting of the renewable energy site resulted in an ‘unacceptable adverse impact’ upon the character of the landscape. | Link
4/3/2025 | FR | Administrative Court of Appeal of Nancy | Cauroy | wind | This Thursday, April 3, 2025, the Administrative Court of Appeal of Nancy officially delivered its final decision regarding the Mont des Quatre-Faux wind farm project. The decree issued on June 26, 2017, by the prefect of Ardennes, authorizing the construction of the Mont des Quatre-Faux wind farm, along with the regularization decree from October 3, 2023, have both been annulled by the court. "The Administrative Court of Appeal of Nancy notes that the defects identified in the initial judgment were addressed," the official statement mentions. However, the court identified an irregularity, noting that the planned park of 63 wind turbines, each reaching 200 meters at blade tip, would cause "high visual impact due to the large number of turbines already authorized within a 10 km radius." The court adds: "The alert thresholds used to assess the phenomenon of visual saturation are largely exceeded for the residents of Cauroy, Machault, Mont-Saint-Remy, Dricourt, and Pauvres. | Link
4/3/2025 | US | AR | Quorum Court | Boone County | wind | On April 8, the Boone County Quorum Court unanimously passed a moratorium on the construction of wind and solar facilities. It is to remain in effect until the quorum court adopts an ordinance governing such facilities or lifts the moratorium. | Link |
4/2/2025 | GB | Buckinghamshire Council | Buckinghamshire | solar | Buckinghamshire Council refused permission for a solar farm on grounds of significant adverse effects on the landscape character and visual amenity grounds and stated that the proposal would have lead to the “proliferation of energy infrastructure in a largely undeveloped countryside, impacting its intrinsic character and beauty, and thereby introducing an alien and discordant feature within the pastoral setting.” ...The Council, refusing the application on grounds of significant adverse effects on the landscape character and visual amenity, emphasised the likely harm to the setting of the Chilterns National Landscape and that the proposed mitigation measures would be insufficient. As such, especially considering the four other solar farms in the vicinity, they stated the proposal would “detract from the tranquillity and scenic beauty of the countryside in this area”. | Link
3/31/2025 | GB | Scottish Borders Council Planning and Building Standards Committee | Hawick | wind | A round of applause broke out at a Scottish Borders Council planning committee on Monday after a wind farm-related bid was rejected amid concerns over its impact on wildlife, residents and the environment. The council’s Planning and Building Standards Committee refused an application for the erection of a temporary lattice anemometry mast up to 90 metres high on land south of Deanburnhaugh in Hawick. The mast was proposed to examine the economic viability of the proposed Mid Hill wind farm, comprising of up to 42 turbines, with tip heights up to 200m...Thirty-one representations objecting to the mast were received over the potential impact on Broadlea Loch and on River Teviot and River Tweed, on wildlife and on Eskdalemuir Seismic Array. Some of those objectors packed the public gallery at today’s meeting and applauded enthusiastically when the application was rejected. | Link
3/26/2025 | US | CA | California Energy Commission | State of California | wind | Shasta County officials said they have won a key victory in defeating the proposed Fountain Wind Project. In documents filed on Tuesday, the California Energy Commission (CEC) is recommending the denial of the wind turbine project proposed for Eastern Shasta County. The CEC is citing significant environmental impacts and conflicts with local land use laws. The recommendatoin was published Tuesday in the CEC's staff assessment, a key in the step in the state's environtmental review process. The proposed industrial wind farm, located on 2,855 acres of forested land near Burney, has faced opposition from residents, retired firefighters, tribal leaders, and elected officials. | Link |
3/20/2025 | US | AR | Quorum Court | Carroll County | solar | With a unanimous vote Tuesday night, Carroll County put a moratorium on the construction of new commercial wind and solar energy projects. The vote follows an unsuccessful attempt last year by the Carroll County Quorum Court to ban such projects. (Quorum courts are the elected governing bodies for Arkansas counties.) Carroll County’s moratorium comes just a few months after nearby Madison County put a similar hold on renewable energy projects into effect....Rogers and others who own property along the county road are suing both the county and the company, alleging that the company and the judge did not have a right to enter into the agreement for the company to alter public roads and keep the county on the hook for the cost of some of the improvements and maintenance. She said their goal is to convince the courts to nullify any agreements between Carroll County and the company, effectively kicking the company off the county road and halting construction. Rogers said her small property on County Road 905 would be nearly surrounded by 600 foot tall wind turbines when the company is done with construction. A map of the construction by MasTec, the engineering firm that Scout Clean Energy hired to do the construction, shows that about 10 turbines will surround her property if the project comes to fruition according to plan. | Link |

3/18/2025 | NZ | Environmental Protection Authority | Southland | wind | A consent for a Southland wind farm has been declined due to the potential impact on the local flora and fauna.Contact Energy had applied to build the Southland Wind Farm on land near Wyndham in Southland. The Environmental Protection Authority has released the decision by an independent panel. The panel said the project would have had significant economic and social benefits, but it was not satisfied that the adverse effects could be offset or compensated for. It said some of the main concerns were about the impact on birds, bats and lizards in one of the three areas of the proposed wind farm, the Jedburgh Plateau. | Link
3/17/2025 | NZ | NZ Expert Consenting Panel | Jedburgh Plateau | wind | A New Zealand regulatory body has declined to approve Contact Energy's (CEN.NZ), opens new tab consent application for its proposed 330 megawatt 55-turbine Southland Wind Farm Project, the utility company said on Tuesday. An independent Expert Consenting Panel convened under the country's COVID-19 Recovery (Fast-track Consenting) Act 2020 (FTCA) declined resource consent for the project...The panel, in its report, acknowledged the project's potential to support the goal to double the overall volume of electricity from renewable sources by 2050. However, it was "not satisfied adverse effects on significant indigenous vegetation and the significant habitats of indigenous fauna on Jedburgh Plateau can be offset or compensated for in a way that will achieve the purpose of the FTCA," it said. | Link |
