Renewable Rejection Database

Management theorist W. Edwards Deming famously said, “In God we trust. All others must bring data.” I created this database to provide reliable data on the rejections or restrictions of battery, solar, and wind projects that have occurred around the world over the past two decades. If you are aware of a rejection or restriction that's not in the database, please click the Contribute button and complete the form. Please include a working URL to the relevant article or government entity so I can verify the information. If it checks out, I will add it to the database. Thanks.

After more than two months of deliberation, the Streator City Council voted 3-2 Wednesday against a proposed solar project off Golf Road. Council members David Reed and David “Moose” Conner voted in favor of the project, while Timothy Geary, Matt McMullen and Mayor Tara Bedei opposed it. The decision followed a failed recommendation from the Streator Plan Commission during its meeting and public hearing on the project last week. The commission had a 2-2 split vote, meaning no official recommendation was forwarded to council. During that hearing, the Plan Commission heard comments from Streator residents opposed to the project, concerned about its impact in a residential area.

Politicians in Noord-Holland have nearly unanimously rejected the arrival of three wind turbines in the Noorder IJpolder, Amsterdam, by Oostzaan and Zaanstad. A request from proponents to postpone a decision, as the initiators and the municipality of Amsterdam wished, did not achieve a majority. The Provincial Councils rejected the controversial plan a year ago while it was in concept because the large windmills would not suit the area and would cause too much damage.

Plans for what would have been the biggest solar farm in Cornwall have been refused. People living near the 210 acre site, close to the A30 at Carland Cross, argued it would harm the landscape, take up valuable agricultural land and increase the risk of flooding. Developers denied that was the case and insisted the development could power 12,000 homes a year and help the UK meet its renewable energy targets. At an extraordinary meeting of Cornwall Council's Strategic Planning Committee, councillors voted by 8-1 to reject the plan over fears it would adversely impact the area. At a packed meeting, campaigners insisted the site in Trispen was fertile farmland needed for food. Fears were also raised about the cumulative impact of having another solar farm near existing ones in mid Cornwall. Councillor Karen Glasson, who represents Probus and St Erme, welcomed the rejection of the scheme. She said: "We don't want this development in this area. We are not against renewable energy but these solar farms need to be in the right place and not taking away from local businesses and excellent farmland."

A battery energy storage bylaw that voters overwhelmingly approved in May has been rejected by the state Attorney General’s Office for failing to comply with procedural safeguards embedded into state zoning laws. Wendell residents voted 100 to 1 at a Special Town Meeting to give their blessing to the addition of a general bylaw to deal with the licensing of battery energy storage systems, including those powered by lithium-ion batteries.

A parish board voted not to move forward with a proposed solar farm in rural Calcasieu. The Calcasieu Planning and Zoning Board rejected a zoning exception that would have allowed the project to move forward. The Texas-based company AYPA proposed the Cajun Crescent Energy Center Solar Facility for a rural area near Topsy and Gillis. The $400-million project would have generated around $87 million in local tax revenue and created 300 jobs during the construction phase....“As far as the character, you cant bring an industrial project into our neighborhoods, that we provided proof to yall that it significantly reduces the values of our homes, and then say it wont change the character of the area,” resident, Tommy Cryar said. “This project without a doubt, is an industrial industry facility and it belongs in an industrial area, it does not belong in a rural community,” resident, Tommy Buckner said. Three board members voted in favor, three voted against it, and three abstained from voting.

The Lithuanian parliament has passed legislation blocking Chinese manufacturers from remotely accessing the country’s solar, wind, and storage facilities. The law prohibits Chinese manufacturers from accessing systems they supply in Lithuania, preventing them from remotely managing power parameters or turning devices on or off.

Plans for a battery energy storage system linked to Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC have reportedly been refused permission to proceed. The football club had been hoping that its involvement in the renewable energy storage project would help generate funds for its community outreach projects. Developer Intelligent Land Investments Group appealed to the Scottish Government after Highland councillors refused planning permission for the facility on a site at the Fairways Business Park in Inverness. Now, a planning official is said to have rejected the appeal and refused permission because the project does not comply with the council’s local development plans.

A proposed solar project in the Sinai community of South Boston hit a roadblock as the South Boston Planning Commission voted against it in a Wednesday evening meeting. The proposed location of the project is at 2101 River Road, on the east side of River Road across from the intersection with Old Grubby Road. The planning commission voted to recommend town council’s denial of a special use permit for a maximum capacity 10-megawatt solar operation and battery storage facility in the rural residential agricultural district of town. Council is expected to vote on the fate of the project at its Tuesday evening meeting.
