Renewable Rejection Database

Management theorist W. Edwards Deming famously said, “In God we trust. All others must bring data.” I created this database to provide reliable data on the rejections or restrictions of battery, solar, and wind projects that have occurred around the world over the past two decades. If you are aware of a rejection or restriction that's not in the database, please click the Contribute button and complete the form. Please include a working URL to the relevant article or government entity so I can verify the information. If it checks out, I will add it to the database. Thanks.

There won’t be any solar farms within the Bellefontaine corporation limits for the foreseeable future. In a narrow vote, members of the Bellefontaine City Council during a Tuesday, Aug. 27, regular meeting voted against an ordinance that would have authorized new planning and zoning regulations for solar energy systems within the city limits. The new planning and zoning proposals that council voted on would have helped pave the way for Hodson Energy to construct a 40-megawatt solar farm spanning about 200-plus acres in the area around Stockyard Road and U.S. Route 68 on the north side of the city. The measure failed 4-3. Council members Deb Baker, Jordan Reser and Nick Davis voted in support of the project. Kyle Springs, Jenna James, Mackenzie Fitzpatrick and John Aler voted in opposition.

Controversial plans to build a massive solar farm on the edge of the city have been rejected. The 87-acre solar panel farm was planned for a field northeast of Reepham Road, Horsford and would have been operational for 40 years. But the plans, submitted by London-based firm Pathfinder Clean Energy, have been rejected by Broadland District Council at a planning meeting last week. Since the proposals were first put forward in late 2022 they have been widely criticised. In September last year, Norwich Airport raised concerns that sunlight reflected off the panels could blind pilots and "compromise flight safety", endangering air travelers.

Plans to site a battery storage facility at Helensburgh’s Ardencaple Farm have been unanimously thrown out by councillors. The committee’s chair remarked that it was “astonishing” that the applicants had submitted their proposal for the site “without justification”. Other councillors also expressed the view that there would be better sites for the facility, the proposal for which attracted 62 objections. Councillor Mark Irvine (Independent, Lomond North) said: “This is a development which, given the current climate emergency, is something we as an authority have made it very clear we do want to prioritise.

Atlas Renewable Energy has withdrawn its application for a licence for a 304MW wind farm in southern Chile after government officials raised doubts about the project. The $325 million Altos de Tablaruca project would have seen the installation of 38 turbines on the southern island of Chiloe 1,100km south of the capital, Santiago. However, the National Corporation for Indigenous Development questioned the lack of information required to properly establish the project’s area of influence in indigenous communities. The National Monuments Council also expressed concern that the transmission line could affected a protected peatbog.

Nanticoke City Council unanimously voted Wednesday night to reject a proposed solar farm on approximately 40 acres around a residential development off South Hanover Street. Council also is planning to adopt new regulations that will limit future solar projects in the city, but "can't exclude them altogether," Solicitor William Finnegan said. South Carolina-based Susquehanna Solar LLC can still file an appeal of Wednesday's decision with the Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas, Finnegan said. The vote to reject the solar farm delighted a crowd of roughly 100 at the meeting and came quickly — about halfway into a 20-minute meeting.

The Connecticut Siting Council's recent denial of a petition to build a solar facility at Ellington Airport is welcome news to a local parachuting company. The council has taken two tie votes this year on USS Solar's petition to build a photovoltaic power station on a 19.2-acre portion of the privately owned airport at the end of its runway on 360 Somers Road. The council's Aug. 1 denial in a 4-1 vote stated that the solar facility "would have an adverse effect on air navigation and aviation safety."

"I'm not willing to gamble my family's health on the word of a solar company telling me, Don't worry, you'll be fine," said Eric Strenfel, resident. Comments like this echoed throughout tonight's zoning hearing held at Misericordia University. More than 100 people showed up to fight against the development of a 46-acre solar farm in Lehman Township...It was nearly five hours of comments as residents voiced their concerns. "This is the nightmare scenario happening in small towns all across America right now. We have the chance to keep our small town integrity and stop this all from happening."...Susquehanna Solar says the proposal falls in line with Lehman Township's existing zoning laws. However, the township's zoning board did not agree. Residents say the vote was a hard-fought victory for those who live in Lehman Township. It was a unanimous 3 - 0 vote by the zoning board as the solar farm proposal will no longer move forward.

WaiukuIn New Zealand, an independent panel has declined resource consent for a wind farm in Waiuku, Franklin. LET Capital Number 3 Limited applied for resource consent under the COVID-19 Recovery (Fast-track Consenting) Act 2020. The project would have involved constructing and operating a wind farm with 13 wind turbine generators to supply electricity to the national grid. The decision comes 154 working days after the application was lodged with the Environmental Protection Authority.

The Australian government has rejected plans for a $36 billion wind, solar and hydrogen project in a remote area of Western Australia, leaving what would have been one of the world's largest green energy projects in limbo for now. In a decision dated June 15, published on the environment department's website, Environment Minister Sussan Ley ruled that the project, the Asian Renewable Energy Hub (AREH), "will have clearly unacceptable impacts" on internationally recognised wetlands and migratory bird species.
